For many years it was well reported that coral bleaching was a significant threat to the reefs around the world and for the most part this has been attributed to global warming. During the coronavirus lockdown thing, we decided to learn a little bit more about it and was surprised learn about the impact that cosmetic products are having.

Many areas of the world now have a ban on certain sunscreen ingredients such as oxybenzone, octocylene and parabens, and it was a shock to learn that as much as 14,000 tons of sunscreen are washed into the world's oceans every year. There are also other ingredients used in soaps and shampoos which are harmful or disrupting to wildlife as well as being non-biodegradable.

For a variety of reasons, coral bleaching has been reported as taking place at lower temperatures than expected and the chemical makeup of the water is considered a leading contributor to this. We thought this wasn't good enough and planned a range of products including wetsuit cleaner, sunscreen, soap, shower gel and shampoo, which give a first class performance, using the best ingredients while minimising environmental disturbance.

The first of these is a castile soap that is:

  • A gentle and effective cleanser
  • Vegetable based / pure olive oil
  • Biodegradable
  • Palm-free
  • Fragrance-free

We took the view that a anything we produce should be have outstanding performance in its primary purpose - it has to be a great soap. Above all, it's a great product and does a fantastic job.
